Betas (also referred to as builds) are testing versions of Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, available for Android, Xbox One, and Windows 10. They are similar to Java Edition snapshots in that they are beta versions of future updates. Betas are generally released by Mojang on any day except Friday.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

Mojang began publicly releasing test versions of full updates to Android users on November 22, 2013.[2] Users could opt in and give major feedback and report bugs to Mojang.

Previous versions (from 0.8.0 to 0.12.1) required users to opt into a Google+ group to receive development builds; they would then see development updates appear as normal updates in the Play Store. This Google+ group was eventually removed on July 17, 2015 due to the amount of spam and ads that it attracted.[3][4] On November 3, 2015, the Pocket Edition Beta team published a dedicated blog[5] where users could opt into the 0.13.0 beta program and display the changelogs for these development builds.

On July 31, 2017, in anticipation of the Better Together Update, the beta was expanded to include Xbox One and Windows 10.[6]
