The Debug Stick is an item introduced in 1.13 and is exclusive to Java Edition. It is used to edit the block states of blocks, and is visually identical to a regular stick but with an enchanted glint.

Obtaining[edit | edit source]

The debug stick is obtainable only via commands such as /give @s debug_stick, and it can only be used in Creative Mode. In Survival Mode, it is identical to a normal stick excepting the enchantment glow.

Usage[edit | edit source]

The debug stick is used to change block states. Left-clicking a block will allow players to select the block state that they wish to change – for example, switching between variants of command blocks. Right-clicking a block will allow players to cycle through the valid values for the block state – for example, make a command block face a certain direction.
