In Minecraft, we think you should be able to wear trousers/leggings whenever you like, whatever gender you are. Which do you prefer to wear? Ones made of leather, gold, iron, chainmail or diamond? We thought once about adding trousers made of cobwebs. But then we realised that they wouldn’t work – the flies would get stuck.
Duncan Geere[1]

Leggings are a type of armor that covers the lower body of the player. There are six types of leggings: leather pants, chain leggings, iron leggings, diamond leggings, gold leggings and netherite leggingsTemplate:Upcoming.

Unit repair[edit | edit source]

Leggings can be repaired in an anvil by adding units of the armor material's repair material, with each repair material restoring 25% of the leggings' maximum durability, rounded down.

Mobs[edit | edit source]

If a zombie, piglin, zombie pigman or skeleton is wearing armor, there is an 8.5% chance (9.5% with Looting I, 10.5% with Looting II and 11.5% with Looting III) for the mob to drop leggings upon death. The leggings are usually badly damaged and may be enchanted.

Vindicators and Pillagers spawn in raids have a chance to drop iron leggings, which are usually badly damaged, and may be enchanted.

Usage[edit | edit source]

Leggings can be placed in the 3rd armor slot of a player's inventory for activation.

Defense points[edit | edit source]

Defense points are each signified by half of a shirt of mail in the armor bar above the health bar. Each defense point reduces any damage dealt to the player that is absorbed by armor by 4%, increasing additively with the number of defense points. Different materials and combinations of armor provide different levels of defense.

The following table shows the number of defense points added by leggings.

Durability[edit | edit source]

The following table shows the amount of damage each piece of armor can absorb before being destroyed.

Any "hit" from a damage source that can be blocked by armor removes one point of durability from each piece of armor worn. Damage taken but not protected by that armor (such as falling or drowning) does not damage the armor, even if it is enchanted to protect against that type of damage. The following chart displays how many hits leggings can endure.

Leather 75
Golden 105
Chain/Iron 225
Diamond 495
NetheriteTemplate:Upcoming 555

Repair[edit | edit source]

Leggings may be repaired by using them along with some of their crafting material (leather, gold ingots, iron ingots, diamonds or netherite ingots{{upcoming|java 1.16|bedrock 1.16}) in an anvil. Chainmail leggings may be repaired in this way with iron ingots. They may also be repaired by crafting them together with another pair of leggings of like material.

Enchantments[edit | edit source]

Leggings can receive the following enchantments:
