Enchanted Book

From Minecraft Wiki

Enchanted Books are magical items that were added in the 1.4.6 update. An enchanted book can be obtained by placing a book in an Enchantment Table with lapis lazuli. They can also be looted from dungeons, Desert Temples, and abandoned mine shafts. They can only be applied through the use of an anvil and can be used on many tools. Enchanted books can also be found from Fishing, and obtained by trading with librarian villagers. Enchanted books can be with almost any enchantment, but with some enchantments, it can't. If you put an Enchanted Book, along with some Lapis Lazuli, if you're in survival mode, you'll get a choice of which enchantment you want on the book.

Usage[edit | edit source]

The enchanted book allows for many enchantments to be added to tools that under normal circumstances cannot have that enchantment. For example, no matter how many times a sword is enchanted, it will never get the unbreaking enchantment; however, it's possible to get the unbreaking enchantment onto the sword through a book with unbreaking in an anvil interface.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • In the console edition's creative mode, all enchanted books obtained from the Creative interface are at the maximum level for each enchantment.
  • On Java Edition all the enchantment books are at maximum as well, however, players can use the /enchant command to obtain any level available for that enchantment. Searching up the enchantment in the search tab will show all the levels available for that enchantment as a book.
