A mushroom field (formerly known as a mushroom island) is one of the rarest non-variant biomes in Minecraft.
Overview[edit | edit source]
Mushroom fields are typically separated from all other biomes by a wide expanse of ocean. They are typically small in size, but a larger field may occasionally be encountered. The surface of a mushroom field is usually completely covered in mycelium. Mycelium is only obtainable by using a shovel enchanted with silk touch. Otherwise, it will drop dirt. Giant mushrooms can be found all over the mushroom fields, as well as regular-sized ones. Mushroom fields are rather devoid of life, aside from the occasional mooshroom.
Mobs[edit | edit source]
Mushroom fields have their own unique mob, found only in this environment called mooshrooms. A mooshroom is a mix between a cow and a red mushroom, and it can be considered the most valuable of all farming mobs. Mooshrooms can provide beef, leather, they can be sheared in order to get red mushrooms, and they will produce mushroom stew when a player 'milks' one while holding a bowl. Like regular cows, mooshrooms also provide milk if a player uses a bucket instead of a bowl. Cats will also spawn if there are villagers in the biome.
Hostile mobs won't spawn on a mushroom field, making these areas safer for players than most other biomes. However, hostile mobs can still travel there.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Mushroom fields will not spawn any monsters/mobs both in the day and at night, including caves and underground areas, only if they are located under/within a mushroom field. However, mob spawners will still spawn mobs.
- Mushroom fields are one of the hilliest biome types in Minecraft, so they can sometimes be inconvenient to build on.
- In console editions, since mushroom fields spawn beside (or entirely within) ocean biomes, and oceans are more common around the edge of the world, mushroom biomes are consequently more common towards the edge of a Minecraft world.
- Typically, there are no trees within a mushroom biome. This can make it a potentially unfavourable biome to start on.
- Although extremely rare, it is possible for a mushroom biome to be connected to another land-based biome.
- Before 1.13 - The Update Aquatic, this biome was known as the Mushroom Island.
- Due to this biome have no hostile mobs spawning, areas around the biome will have increased mobs.
