Shulker Shells are an item added as part of Java Edition 1.11.

Obtaining[edit | edit source]

To find the shulkers to make the shulker shells, a player has to enter the End dimension. Once they have done this, they can choose to kill the Ender Dragon first to make the next step easier. After that, look for a small 3 by 3 by 5 floating area of bedrock.

Either throw an Ender pearl into the space between or use a riptide trident to go through. Doing this will teleport a player to a new set of islands in the End dimension. Once there, there should be an End city and an End ship. More than one End city may appear, but it is not common.

There will be shulkers all around those parts of the End dimension. When fighting Shulkers, they can cause entities to levitate into the air, making it tricky to fight them. A bow and arrow may be a good idea, along with milk to neutralize the effect (don't drink it while you're up high because you can fall).

Source[edit | edit source]

The shulker is the source of the shulker shell. Upon the death of a shulker, there is a 50% chance for the item to drop. If using a sword with the Looting enchantment, the chance for a shulker shell to drop increases by 6.25% for each level of the Looting enchantment up to approximately a 68.75% chance with Looting III.

If an item drops from the shulker, it will be one shell. To make a shulker box, a player will need to kill more than one shulker.

Uses[edit | edit source]

Two shulker shells and a chest are required to craft a shulker box.
