We Don't need clouds in this article[edit source]

Yeah, they have their own article, we shouldn't put them in here, possibly we could just provide a link. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by MoonBeans4419 (talkcontribs) at 14:23, 25 December 2010 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Clouds have nothing to do with air blocks. This section should be completely removed. 198.228.200.145 02:17, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

I completely agree, but appearantly I'm not able to remove a section.--85.27.161.163 17:53, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

Color[edit source]

What determines the color of the sky. Sometimes it's bluish, sometimes it's purple during the day. Is that determined the biome the player is in? --Flajuram 00:39, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Might you be confusing this with the vignette? --TheKax 16:44, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

Needs CSS image[edit source]

This block needs a css image for the navigation template. --Ecksearoh 14:41, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

No, it doesn't, really. The image would be indistinguishable from empty space. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 03:15, 18 September 2011 (UTC)
It already has one? Can't you see it? Oh that's right, air is invisible. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 03:19, 18 September 2011 (UTC)

What Happens?[edit source]

What happens if you somehow hack an air block in without crashing the game, and then place it? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Mooshroom12 (talkcontribs) at 23:25, 28 February 2012 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

You can't. The air block isn't so much a block of its own, as it is an absence of any other blocks. Its data value is 00 (null), so technically every empty slot in your inventory is actually an air block. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 04:48, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

"If hacked in one's inventory, air has fire's icon, and is labeled as 'Undefined Item'." No? NightstormKitty 23:43, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

If you do manage to hack an Air block into the game, when you place it, logically the game would try to find code that isn't there, crashing Minecraft. 90.191.11.233 19:51, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

Correction: The game tries to replace a block with the same block, replacing thr coe with th same code, which the games code cannot do. This causes the code to fight the code, causing a disruption in which thre is avery tiny breif moment where there is no code. Without the code, the game collapses and then crashes. The only way to place air without this happening and with no mods or hacks o glitches is to place air so that it takes up a diferent non-soli block lik a clou block. -TexasMike10 –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 96.226.64.167 (talk) at 04:26, 7 July 2012 (UTC). Since when was air a block?[edit source]

Air is not, has never been and will probably never be a block. Index 0 (where air "is") in the block list is simply an empty spot - null. If any Block.java method is called on Block.blocksList[0], it will cause a NullPointerException - i.e. the game will crash because it tried to do something with nothing.

If you want proof, check the code yourself or go to Word of Notch - one of the early posts describe the mistake in making air an empty slot. (I can't link to it; I tried last time I was trying to make this section, but the anti-bot system was being stubborn with me. Also, I'm too lazy to log in.) 89.162.42.181 16:01, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

Hey, the API update would be a really good time to work on that... any word if they're making the attempt? Then we could have smoke and such in mods..... --Mental Mouse 19:07, 8 February 2013 (UTC)

As of 13w38b, air is now treated as block. ISibboI (talk) 19:27, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

Is flowing liquid air?[edit source]

In regards to mob spawning, is an air block occupied by flowing (non-source) liquid treated as air?--85.27.161.163 18:48, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

No, flowing liquid will prevent mobs from spawning. This can be seen most easily in a mob farm built from a spawner; the only mobs that get collected are those the spawner spawns (other, maybe, than the rare squid). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 21:21, 16 March 2013 (UTC)
Wow, fast answer. Thanks! \(*o*)/--85.27.161.163 07:13, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

Needs grid image[edit source]

Apparently, the air block hasn't got a grid image. Currently, it shows this:

File:Grid layout None (small).png

Keep calm and carry on! --Dlljs 06:10, 21 May 2013 (UTC)

Grid images are inventory icons. There is no air icon for the inventory, so no, it doesn't need one. You can use the following to indicate air:

Invisible block[edit source]

Dear Admins,

I personally think that despite that air is an invisible block, it still deserves an image if it has an infobox. Either that, or maybe air doesn't need an infobox. But shouldn't every infobox have a picture weather that block is invisible or not?

Sincerely,

Air block version[edit source]

I changed the "Version added" to say 1.7.2(13w38b), simply because the concept of air was always there, but the actual block was added in 1.7.2(13w38b). –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Screenbones (talkcontribs) at 6:40, 24 June 2014 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Cave/ Void air need further clarification[edit source]

Per a discussion on https://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-java-edition/recent-updates-and-snapshots/2899623-void-air-vs-cave-air-there-should-be-more-meaning is "Void Air" now returned on a command block query of "What exists above 255, below 0, or in an unspawned chunk?" Does "Cave Air" replace the "Void" structure block, which up until today I always interpreted as "Void air"? Does the "Void" structure not have anything at all to do with "air" of any sort? Romaqrosher (talk) 04:01, 15 April 2018 (UTC)

Void air and structure voids are unrelated. I don't know in what contexts a location is considered to contain void air ("/execute if block" doesn't find it in the void or in unloaded chunks), but you can demonstrate that void air exists and is distinct from normal and cave air by using /setblock to place it inside a loaded chunk and then using /execute to test for it. (You can also, by placing it in the world, show that it's different from structure voids -- the most obvious difference being that structure voids have a hitbox in the middle, while void air just acts like air.) – Craftykids (talk) 00:31, 17 April 2018 (UTC)
Void air is just a completely internal block, it's never actually naturally in the world. It's returned (completely internal) when areas are outside the world (y<0, y>255, unloaded chunks) but it's not like that block is actually there (no blocks can be there). It's just used to internally deal with these areas. Previously just normal air was used for this. It has nothing to do with structure voids. Cave air actually generates in the world, in underground areas. This MIGHT be done to avoid any issues when generating terrain, so they can overwrite air but keep areas within structures using cave air intact. --Pepijn (talk) 01:02, 17 April 2018 (UTC)

Cave air[edit source]

What's the difference between cave air and regular air? an_awsome_person (talk) 07:22, 24 September 2018 (UTC)

They are functionally identical, but cave air only generates in caves and underground structures. 193.210.230.143 05:05, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
