Speculation on future use[edit source]

I removed the speculatory bits of the article but they were readded, so I'm curious - is being able to write in books something Notch has mentioned or just pure user speculation? If it's the former does anyone have a source? Otherwise should it be removed? Izzalion 02:42, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

There is actually a mod for 1.3_01 that allows you to write in books. I suggest you add it in the article. I would myself but I have no idea how to edit these things. I don't even know if I'm doing this right. Chris The Mushroom 7:18, 21 February 2011 (PST)

Found what was mentioned, at Notch's blog (http://notch.tumblr.com/post/4988431144/the-maps) It currently says:
"At the moment the map doesn’t work at all in multiplayer, but that’s my next task. The code I write to support that will also be possible to reuse in the future for things like books and notes written by players, and possibly even custom paintings/hand drawn signs." --Cith 16:43, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

It does seem likely. We have a set of four items (Sugarcane > Paper > Book > Bookshelf) which are barely used for anything :( --HexZyle 05:06, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

Use Proposed:[edit source]

Bug[edit source]

When destroyed, the bookshelf disappears. User:kevely 9:30, 26 March 2011 (EST)

This is no bug, this is intentional. Drenay 01:37, 27 March 2011 (UTC)
No offense, but I see alot of talk pages with "bugs" or "new features" that are either intentional (for the "bugs") or mods/plugin they were using (for the "new features"). Jtlcr777 00:21, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
It's infruriating isn't it? "Look, leaf blocks now drop apples! I'm not going to bother reading the history of the page to discover that this edit has already been added and removed 56 thousand times :/" --HexZyle 04:18, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

dye[edit source]

maybe books should be dyable just for decorative reasons? --A Big Mojang Lover 00:00, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Difficulty[edit source]

Books seem to be much more difficult to make as they require leather, and cows do not provide much per cow. more leather per cow or making only editable books require leather would fix the problem.

Corrected Recipe[edit source]

Removed "um thats wrong wheres the leather above?" and added the leather to the recipe. In the future please use the talk page or fix the problem.--184.13.34.198 20:35, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

I have never used leather, just stacked 3 paper up and made books. I didnt know you could use leather...

Corrected Recipe 2[edit source]

Why did Orthotope changed the recipe? I have corrected it into the right one. Leave it that way please.
--NoDoubt 343 18:41, 7 August 2012 (UTC)

The recipe is shapeless - it can be crafted with the ingredients in any location. However, showing them in a square makes it clearer that it can be made in the 2x2 crafting grid. -- Orthotope 18:53, 7 August 2012 (UTC)

Recipe on the XBOX 360 Version[edit source]

I'm not sure why it's not mentioned, but the recipe for the 360 option is just three paper without any leather, thank goodness as cows don't always drop it.--67.185.108.121 08:47, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

Crafting should be replaced PE 0.6.0 as 0.5.0[edit source]

Since leather is added on 0.6.0, in Pocket Edition, it says

File:Grid layout None (small).png

Crafting is File:Grid layout None (small).png File:Grid layout None (small).png

Can you add leather on book? --Minecraftaddict154 04:13, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
