This is separate from TNT, so why would you move this info there? --JonTheMon 21:21, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Why is this called gunpowder?[edit source]

Are we going to get Gun's at some point in minecraft. Its such an irreverent term for something that does not exist in the world of minecraft. "Black Powder" makes more sense to me or at least till Guns are introduced.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunpowder

It's called gunpowder because it's used to make TNT, which, as you know, blows things up. That's the gunpowder's job. And, guns have never been planned, and I doubt they ever will be. Good day to you! And please sign your posts! 70.181.68.226 03:44, 16 April 2013 (UTC)

Getting strategies[edit source]

Ok, you can get gunpowder from Creepers and Ghasts. Why would you want to get them from Ghasts who randomly (and seemingly rarely) spawn next to portals? If you really want gunpowder, you're better off making a grinder or just hunting creepers. --JonTheMon 16:05, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

By using both the Thaumcraft and Soul Shards mods, you can easily and safely farm gunpowder with a 3 block wide room. Once you have created a Soul Shard capable of spawning creepers place water in the back to wash gunpowder forward, 2 layers of quicksand above that to kill the creepers, and 3 Hungry Chests at the end of the water to catch the items and hold until you collect them. I suggest using glass to fill the space above the chests so you can watch the creepers die, or to see if anything isn't working like it should Using a tier 5 shard will make them spawn quickest. Creepers will stop spawning if the spawner is receiving a redstone charge from a switch or redstone torch. Treita 03:38, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

False Trivia Info[edit source]

I am currently playing in the beta 1.9 pre-release and I've been getting Gunpowerder more often than Ghast Tears. Can this be removed because from what I've seen, that isn't true. MrLeonov 04:24, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

So how do you make a grinder?--Mudpenguin >;) 20:04, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

Well, the longest article on this wiki would be Tutorials/Mob Farm. --JonTheMon 20:07, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

Sulfur or Sulphur[edit source]

Which is the correct spelling? Obviously "sulfur" is the modernised version, but can anyone verify that it was used in-game? Legoless 01:24, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

It seems this has been cleaned up. The correct spelling was "sulphur", apparently. Legoless 00:02, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

Well, in game it is called "Gunpowder". Sulphur is the yellow element that gunpowder is made from. Perhaps Notch or Jeb could impliment Sulphur and Salt so you could craft gunpowder, because it was originally made out of coal, sulphur and saltpeter.

Black Powder instead of Gunpowder[edit source]

I never get Gunpowder, instead I get black powder. When mixed with sand I get Black powder explosive, not TNT. Can someone explain the difference, and why doesn't the article say anything about this??? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 85.225.233.150 (talk) 10:51, 12 April 2014(UTC). You're using one of the language translations (probably Pirate), not the official US english. -- Orthotopetalk 18:30, 12 April 2014 (UTC)

That's strange, I've bought the game and downloaded it officially. I use a texture pack nothing more.
