Might be duplicating some content from [[Map editing]] or Custom server list, might want to double check. --GRYPHONtc 00:34, 8 September 2010 (CDT)
This is meant to replace the anemic Map editing page, and it already links to the custom multiplayer servers.

QUESTION:Type of License

Do you think we should put the type of license of the programs? For instance Minecraft Assist Utility has turned into a shareware and I think the readers should be aware of that

QUESTION: Updated Program

Minecraft Mod Installer has an updated version than from the link provided. While there is a link to the new version (v1.1) from the link provided here (v1.0), should we just change the link so it goes directly to the updated version?

Sorting[edit source]

The lists should really be sorted by name or last update or something, because people are unfairly pushing their favorite programs back up at the top for reasons like "because it should be there" or "it was here first". Especially as a developer, this is extremely unfair, so an unbiased method of rendering the list should be chosen rather than this free-for-all design which is apparently causing issues here. This is how Wikipedia for instance handles it (uses a table which allows custom sorting, defaulting it by name), and we should really look into it. Paril 23:23, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

Okay, apparently I don't have eyes and see that we are indeed using the sorted lists - so why isn't it sorting by default on Name or Date? This would remove this aspect of "my program is better than yours so I'm above you", and quickly let people see which programs are currently being updated. Paril 23:31, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
  • But someone please fix a /header problem (I don't know how!) Minecraft5025

Viruses[edit source]

Half the windows programs seem to have viruses in them. Should programs that fail to pass virus total be removed from the list? 24.61.44.105

Any and all entries found to have a virus need removing IMHO (with an appropriate comment, the reason for removal, the name of the virus found and if possible beforehand contacting the submitter to make them aware of its existance). Any found here with a viruse (provable, known) would likely detract from the value of peoples hard work by causing negative association in the software found here.

--KVKConsultancy 10:04, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Thats because this site had a virus. I got in contact with a member of the Curse staff who has reviewed and most likely resolved the issue (i'm keeping my eye out, but looks good so far). KVKConsultancy 01:22, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

Performance[edit source]

can we have a form of performance rating for these programs?--Kizzycocoa 14:03, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

I think that would be a good idea. As it is, Infdev Map Visualizer doesn't even exist anymore and Cartograph is pretty broken and development has all but stopped. Yet those are programs 1 and 3 on the list. It would make the most sense to list them by some sort of quality. Obviously I cannot participate in such rankings (not exactly impartial) but it should be done. Donkey Kong 18:56, 13 November 2010 (UTC)

AlphaVespucci written in what?[edit source]

Written in C++ AlphaVespucci GUI has been written in .NET

there is no .net c++ compiler (only C# compilers) Jasen1 02:31, 11 November 2010 (CST)

What? Yes there is.. Managed C++; Visual Studio compiles C++, C# and VB into managed .NET code. Paril 23:24, 19 November 2011 (UTC)

attack sites on this article, but only when im not logged in.[edit source]

viewing the article when i'm not logged on brings me to a page that says it's under construction, and a few links, both of which lead to attack sites. What gives?Jumpingbug 21:31, 23 November 2010 (CST)

That is freakin' weird. I see the same thing. I can't figure out what's cauMsing it, either. -- Toshu (talk) 03:39, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

I tested and retested this, at first I could reproduce the attack links, and then I made an exact copy of this page and couldn't any longer. Then I asked my browser to completely refresh this page (programs and editors), and the problem went away even when I'm logged out. I'm guessing it's some caching issue. Can some of you try to restart your browser completely and see if you still see the attack links? --meioziz 00:59, 24 November 2010 (CST)

Date?[edit source]

Is the date supposed to be initial release or latest release? --Patrik 14:54, 26 November 2010 (CST)

I'd assumed latest, as that would be a better indication of how active development is. --xolotl 17:07, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

McBooster[edit source]

Is MCBooster worth it? How does it work, and does it do its job? Do I have to reset anything afterwards (on a vista) Arcticwolf15 20:54, 2 December 2010 (CST)

Platform[edit source]

.NET applications should be marked as having Mac and Linux support so long it works on the desired platform with Mono installed, just like Java programs need Java installed.

That just confused the heck outta me. I found MineViewer halfway down the page, and downloaded it for my Mac, only to be confronted with an .EXE. Totally missed the Mono disclaimer at the top of the page: I've put it in bold to make it stand out a tad more. JaffaCakeLover 17:07, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Reformat[edit source]

I think this page needs a serious re-format into a horizontal grid layout, cause using the templates as they are is messy looking and hard to read. With screenshots, I think they can easily go into this grid format. What do you think? --Gnu32 16:41, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

I totally agree with that. Those pictures can be made to thumbnails by the wikisoftware. Actually just some simple code. - BananaJoe

I think it would be more worthwhile to turn this page into an index of sorts and make each section its own page. Rocketman679 10:16, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

Linux compatible[edit source]

A whole bunch of the mapgenerator programs claim to be linux compatible.

Infact they are. With clients who installed X11 but not with servers who usually lack of packages which aren't necessary to run the server. X11 is one of those. Most people don't want to install X11 on their servers because it is a potentional security fraud while running. If a software is categorized as linux compatible, one should be able to determine if it is able to run on a usual server installation by looking into the wiki. - BananaJoe

Links have been changed[edit source]

All the links to different programs websites or forum links have been changed to a youtube video. I assume someone is trying to get views. Don't know if this is the right place to report this, new here.

NPOV[edit source]

Straight to the point, half of the descriptions for the list here read like advertisements. As I don't use these programs (and feel that if you're gonna mess with your game, do it right and go right into the .dats) there's no way I could provide non-biased informative edits to the descriptions. And so I ask that other editors who can write in NPOV please do so; if I have the time I might edit one or two, but I'd have to use the programs first to see how they function. Frozenne 08:42, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

Version rewriting[edit source]

Please include the last known numeric version that said programs work for. There are a bunch of programs that say they are for "Beta," when many of them don't actually work well with 1.3_01. They should include confirmed version builds (ie. v1.3_01) that they are compatible for.

We should move mappers that don't work with 1.3_01 into a discontinued category (or at least to the bottom of the list) so people stop trying to use them, since there's a hard break in compatibility here. -Donkey Kong 03:17, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
Alright, I reordered the programs roughly based on features, popularity, and current compatibility. I imagine this could be quite controversial. All the top picks have confirmed MCRegion support now, so they'll at least work if you download them. Obviously as programs are updated or left to decay, they should move up and down the ranks. I hope we can all sort of agree. At any rate, a giant unordered list with lots of broken programs near the top really wasn't serving the interests of anyone.-Donkey Kong 03:53, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Minetographer can work with McRegion[edit source]

What would be a good way to add a note to the "Latest Compatible Release" part of Minetographer's entry to say that while it doesn't work with McRegion as is, it can be made to work quite easily by simply replacing the Tectonicus .jar file that comes with it to the latest Tectonicus .jar file?

Falling Damage Calculator?[edit source]

I'm not sure if this is really worth the trouble of putting this up there, but I made a falling damage calculator. It's in VB6. It just uses a really simple formula that I took the time to research by building a big long staircase, then conducting surreptitious tests to figure out the formula for this. This was based on some other experiment. Unfortunately, I haven't added armour to it yet.

Remove 'Minecraft Texture Switcher'[edit source]

I suggest removing the program with the title 'Minecraft Texture Switcher'. The website is infested with viruses, per http://safeweb.norton.com/report/show?url=multimania.fr

Pixel Art requirements calculator[edit source]

Hey!

I created a requirements calculator for pixel art - it's not really a program as it's implemented in MS Excel, but I thought it might be useful for other people, so I'm letting you folk know about it.

I don't know what the "requirements" for listing something on this page is, so I'd love it if someone else could add it for me if it's appropriate to be listed here.

http://helpmebot.org.uk/~stwalkerster/minecraft/MinecraftPixelArtRequirements.xlsx

I might implement this into a proper program at some point, but this works for now, albeit MS Excel! :P

Minecraft QuickTyper (Command Spammer) == Malware[edit source]

This is very dangerious application and i have removed it from the list. I have found that it uses memory edits and hacks into comodo firewall, Shutting it down, Then it makes a fake version of it. but with missing GUI (graphical user interface) and then records your input actions. And in some case at one point it disables mouse input all-together. This may not be the virus itself it could be a dropper. I am not 100% sure yet. But i also found that its scan reads safe on avast. Yet to test on virustotal. But when i do memory scan after running it. (I TESTED IT TWICE TO MAKE SURE IT WAS THAT APPLICATION) (pretty dumb risking my computer for the sake of others) And it kept on editing known processes AKA applications that does memory edit on them and infects them with malicious spyware / trojan like code. The trojan end of it was the fact after a while of using computer. and such it shuts off mouse input then eventually the keyboard..

--Coaster3000 18:50, 16 September 2011 (UTC)

Suggested actions is to ban the person for putting up this link / or owner of this application. If they want they can appeal and make project open source.. To prove its not malware otherwise for our safety I believe they should be banned

Export signs[edit source]

If i want to export a list of signs (text and position), is there a tool that can do that in the list?

i cant play my single player terrain.. :'([edit source]

when i log in, its just fine, when i want to play the terrain, it loades for a second, then it says "saving chunks," then it went to a black screen, anyone help me????? :'( :'(

My brother and I had some problems on our server when he had a powercut (corrupted chunks). I managed to repair this issue by a two fold approach, firstly I installed and ran a program written in Python my brother found for me online to test and repair chunks, but this didn't fix it (though it did find and fix some issues so it might have been important). Finally, it still would not load the world. What I did, was to "temporarily" move all the *.mcr files into another folder and copy them back one at a time and try to load the world. If the world loaded with that .mcr file I would deem the file to be "good" and keep it. If it did not load the .mcr I deemed it to be bad and resigned myself to losing that portion of the map. As it happened with me. Only one .mcr was properly corrupted so I just deleted that and also as it turned out I didn't lose anything significant (yay). Sadly though I don't remember the name of the "MineBack Repair" tool my brother provided (if anyone wants me to put effort into discovering that, just reply and ill ask my brother next I see him).

Split[edit source]

I vote to split the article, seeing as it is arguably one of the longest on the wiki. Perhaps give each program its own page (perhaps [[Programs and editors/Program Name]], [[Programs/Program Name]], or even [[Programs:Program Name]]), and this should just point there, making each program take up a single line (perhaps with an icon) instead of the huge block they already do.. This should especially be done for popular ones, such as such as Cartograph G, INVedit, and MCEdit. Supuhstar 06:13, 10 December 2011 (UTC)

  • I agree - the current page should be an outline for other pages, with each group of types on the current page getting their own - and with those being broken up into "real programs" and "minecraft add-ons" (like WorldEdit is not a program it is a plugin for CraftBukkit), with what type of add-on it is - CB/ModLoader/single-mod, this could even be done to the current page. ~AeSix 173.171.151.3 18:13, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
  • I did but someone is trying to undo it! Minecraft5025 00:19, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
  • I've temporarily restored the content until I can fix the new subpages. -- Orthotope 03:43, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
  • Done. The subpages still need introductions and general cleaning-up to remove broken links, missing images, and obsolete programs. A number of the 'specialized programs' could be better placed in one of the other categories. -- Orthotope 05:37, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Multi-Million Dollar Company may have infringed on a software's copyrights?!?![edit source]

I used an application that is provided for free by a huge company. I just so happen to notice how similar it is to another program I had previously used and paid for.

This program has many less features but is set up exactly like the original application. It even has all of the exact same names for every tool the original has! (seems very fishy to me)

The looks of the free application and functions are just way too similar to say that this application is different than the one I am thinking is the original. So I have a question...

Are people legally aloud to edit an application and use it as a tool and provide it with no charge?

Software authors are protected under copyright law in England and America. This is an innate law which any person producing a work of copyright can utilise by declaring their work to be copyrighted prominently, keeping records of when it was produced and evidence of design and effort of creation (e.g. any materials used in the production of the copyrighted work. Preferably one should also have some "physical" associated evidence like some hand written design notes in case of dispute of copyright). What you need to do, is you need to contact who you believe to be the original authors and inform them of your suspicions. As a software author I would very much wish to know if someone was infringing my copyright. Also, you could state here the peice of software in question, its possible someone here knows something relevent --KVKConsultancy 16:37, 14 December 2011 (UTC)

This section needs an overhaul.[edit source]

...and there's a couple reasons why.

First off, these pages aren't even kept up to date properly (much less properly managed- for instance some tools show up in the pages even though they're outdated, and tools compatible with 1.4.6 are shown as being "out of date" despite the fact that 1.4.6 tools/mods work perfectly fine with 1.4.7), and some things show up in multiple sections even though they shouldn't.

Second, the setup of the sections themselves is awful, not to mention several tools from the old page have been neglected and not even put where they belong (for instance Techne), and the fact that the modelers are separate from the skinning and texturing seems silly since there's not a whole lot of them and it'd make sense if they were paired together in the same page (though in separate sections inside the page) instead of being on separate pages.

Third, multiple tools OTHER THAN Techne (and an online modeling program whose name I forget) haven't made it on here even though they should- this includes MultiMC and Magic Launcher, among other things.

Overall, this entire section needs a severe overhaul to clean out the outdated information and add in things that should be there in the first place.

Unfortunately, these pages are not policed officially, outside catching bad programming (viruses, etc.) when they are added and ensuring proper formatting and alphasort is followed. Other than that, each individual program is maintained by whoever added it or anyone that uses it and notices the info is out of date. For compatibility, if it works for 1.4.7, it's compatible. The template used for those columns automatically marks that cell red if it doesn't match the current version, so if it works for the current version, then change it to 1.4.7 or add a note in the description.
The rest of what you said can easily be taken care of by anyone. Anything on this wiki can be taken care of by anyone, with exception to protected pages due to specific reasons. You are welcome to perform an overhaul yourself. Kanegasi C 03:27, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Formatting Codes[edit source]

I have been making a Parkour map and wanted to use the 1.8 features. But I could not find how to use formatting codes with command block outputs (/title,/say,/tellraw,etc.) By formatting codes I mean changing the text to Bold, Italic, or gibberish. The wiki says I need to download external programs, and I have NBTexlporer, But that only does world names and server names. New category "deobfuscating tools"?[edit source]

For Java Edition, there are a few deobfuscation tools that makes the decompiled Minecraft make sense (which is not prohibited per Minecraft EULA). Can I add a new category for that? This will include Mod Coder Pack and possibly a few other mappings (like FabricMC yarn)
