Talk:South-east rule

A little more than necessary?[edit source]

Seems kinda redundant to list every single trivial pattern that can be found on the textures of blocks. Is there a purpose behind it that I'm missing? Alphap 20:08, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Orienting yourself... Yes it's a bit extensive... but it's a project ;P
It doesn't come under the South/West rule. Texture orientation & the south-west quirk are two different things - the only thing they have in common is the fact that they are both related to compass directions. Features on the texture of a block only orient to a certain direction because that is how the artist who created the textures made them. Please move it to a different article. The South/West rule applies to such things as contact with liquids. If there should be a list of texture quirks for orientation, that should probably be its own "Orientation" page. This page is for the South/West rule only. Verhalthur (talk)(edits) 17:29, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

Present in other games...?[edit source]

A "bug" similar to this is present in a few other Java games, i.e. RuneScape. In RS, a monster that takes up more than one square will always drop the item on the most southwest square. Perhaps it's just something in Java? Megabobster 03:37, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

Sun rising in North[edit source]

Since Notch has confirmed the sun rises in the North, are there any plans to change every cardinal direction mentioned in the wiki? :) (for example, this is now the South/East rule..)

I think the directions should keep these names since this is what everyone is used to. Also signs and maps etc. of most servers uses these cardinal directions.
Now that notch has changed the direction the sun rises in this subject has just gotten more confusing. Daropedia 22:36, 13 October 2011 (UTC)

cactus[edit source]

"If the player is standing adjacent to a sand block with a cactus on it, the North and East faces of the cactus will damage the player, if touched, while the South and West faces will not."

In 1.8 I found all sides of cactus damage you. But so far as I remember it was the same in the previous few versions as well. (Also, it's not sure how the author meant it: are you on same level as the cactus or one below? In the second case though there's no damage at all). Hoemaco 07:25, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

One below. It did damage you in previous versions. Not sure about current. Needs testing. — MiiNiPaaT|C 09:28, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
Tested it. They no longer daage you. Same with lava and fire. — MiiNiPaaT|C 09:49, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

What directions are real?[edit source]

Is F:0 really south? Is F:1 really west? On page Stone Brick it says F:1 is north, F:2 is east in the trivia section. Which is correct?

Answer[edit source]

According to the assumption that the sun rises in the east 2 is north and 3 is east and so forth... (According to the wiki this was fixed in 1.9 pre-release 4 that the sun now rises in the east and not in the north, due to a bug in past versions)

South-West rule verses South-East rule[edit source]

Since the orientation of the map has been changed due to the relocation of the rising and setting of the sun, the track page refers to a change in the name of this as being the South-East rule. As such I have currently flagged both the information here and the information on the track page as being outdated pending updates.

I've updated the page a bit, but this still needs the version number and needs to be cleaned up. - Asterick6 23:43, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

Explosion bias[edit source]

Southeast bias in explosions has been fixed. 01:02, 20 May 2015 (UTC)

South, East, Up[edit source]

It should probably be noted that Minecraft has an upwards preference as well. It simply isn't noticed in most situations. Firebastard (talk) 09:49, 9 July 2015 (UTC)

Are there actually any blocks affected by that? I don't see it being worth noting there is a preference unless something is affected by it. KnightMiner t/c 01:00, 10 July 2015 (UTC)
Maybe explosions? -PancakeMan77 (talk) 01:30, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

Mob Wandering Northwest in 1.10.2?[edit source]

One of the guys on the server I play on has been trying to get his golems to stand evenly around his base, but they keep wandering off into the northwestern corner? Is this an example of the SE rule? It seems suspicious that they would wander exactly opposite to the direction with such quirky behavior. 11:12, 16 September 2016 (UTC)
