I wonder why there is mention of sticks being recommended for short jobs. There is no reason to ever use sticks over planks as you get less furnace use for the same amount of base resource (two planks equal four sticks.. and two planks give three uses while four sticks give two). Sure, for non-stacking items such as pork both could be of similar use since you're unlikely to make use of the additional half usage from the plank. -Hmm, 08 june 2011

Simple. Say you needed to smelt 2 items. Wooden plank burns for 1.5, while a stick burns for 0.5. A wooden plank is worth 2 sticks (craftwise). Instead of using 2 wooden planks for the job, which would burn for 3 smelts (4 sticks worth, craftwise) you could instead use 1 wooden plank and 1 stick, to burn for 2 smelts. (3 sticks worth, craftwise) Other instances=
4 smelts = 2 wooden planks, 1 stick
Not for 6 smelts, charcoal is more efficient
10 smelts = 1 charcoal, 2 , 1 stick
And for any time 8c+4=n where n is the number of smelts and c is an integer of charcoal/coal --HexZyle 04:30, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
Also, the use of spare sticks and saplings as fuel is much more effective than planks because planks are more useful for crafting than sticks are, since sticks cannot be converted back into planks, and the typical minecrafter will have stacks upon stacks of useless saplings. --HexZyle 05:14, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

Question: Did the inventory sprite for sticks change? There seems to be like a bulge in the middle of the stick of something, Kinda weird. ~Hero122

Hey, has anyone noticed that there isn't a crafting recipe for torches in the Crafting Uses section? TheEpicDude2 (talk) 22:47, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

Fixed by Majr; I don't think anyone else groks the crafting usage templates. -- Orthotopetalk 03:31, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
The way the DPL template works is a massive hack that I did just to see if it was possible. I left it on the couple of pages that were already set up as I was expecting to have lua months ago to do it properly... MattTalk
