Turtle eggs are laid by turtles on the beaches of various ocean biomes.[1] They can hatch to produce additional turtles.[2]These eggs can be found in various sizes and are covered in green spots.[3] Turtle eggs spawn in "clusters" (or "nests") along shorelines. Each cluster can have up to 4 eggs. After a few minutes, the eggs will emit a cracking sound and hatch into baby turtles. If a player breaks a turtle egg before it hatches, no turtle will emerge. Mobs such as zombies, husks, skeletons, wolves, or ocelots will try to destroy turtle eggs, so players may have to guard them to ensure they will hatch.

Farming

Turtle eggs can be farmed by breeding turtles. When two turtles close to each other are fed seagrass, one of them will burrow into nearby sand and lay 1-4 eggs.

Trivia

  • Players can also destroy the eggs by jumping on them.
    • Dropped items or falling anvils have a slight chance of destroying the eggs.
  • Turtle eggs will only hatch at night.
  • Turtle eggs can be obtained with a Silk Touch tool. Otherwise, the eggs will break and drop nothing if mined with a un-enchanted tool.
  • In Java Edition this block is called "Turtle Egg", whereas in Bedrock Edition and Legacy Console Edition it's called a "Sea Turtle Egg".
